Journey to Burgundy with Fontenille Collection

At the pace of the vines, the seasons, and centuries of history.

In the heart of the Meursault vineyards, Château de Cîteaux reveals a unique place, blending wine heritage, 19th-century elegance, and Burgundian art de vivre.

Legacy of the Cistercian Monks

Beneath the Château lie impressive 12th-century Cistercian cellars, dug by the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux to vinify and store Meursault wines. Major witnesses to Cistercian influence on the Burgundian landscape and wine culture, they lend the place a rare uniqueness, where monastic heritage and 19th-century bourgeois elegance coexist today.

In the 19th century, this historic foundation saw the construction of a bourgeois reception château, designed for the art of entertaining in the heart of the vineyard. Today, the site combines these two legacies within a single silhouette, bridging monastic memory and bourgeois elegance.

Ancient codes
contemporary view

In the heart of the Meursault vineyards, Château de Citeaux offers 35 Rooms & Suites spread between the Château and the outbuildings of Vieux-Clos (opening scheduled for January 2027).

The Rooms & Suites poetically unfold a decor inspired by the ancient codes of the Napoleonic III era, such as rope motifs and the colors of the Burgundian vineyard landscape. Here, the elegance of a 19th-century bourgeois residence meets contemporary decor with natural materials, light wood, and refined textiles, in luminous havens opening onto the gardens and vineyards of the Côte de Beaune.

Sustainable restoration between craftsmanship and know-how

The renovation of Château de Cîteaux clearly states an ambition: to combine heritage restoration, decorative excellence, and sustainable commitment, with the goal of obtaining BREEAM certification. At every stage, the project prioritizes eco-designed materials, rigorous energy optimization, and partners selected for the quality of their expertise and commitments. In the guest rooms and living spaces, bedding made in France, custom-made furniture, European textiles, and artisanal objects create a durable and refined decor.

This attention to material and gesture extends throughout the Château, through the work of local artisans such as Leblond Père et Fils for certain woodwork or the house SERF for the restoration of the library's glass roof, in a delicate reinterpretation of certain 19th-century codes.

An engaged vision of living heritage

The renovation of Château de Cîteaux extends one of Fontenille Collection's founding principles: to bring heritage to life with integrity, respecting the history, architecture, and spirit of each place. Conceived in close dialogue with its territory, this restoration enhances local expertise and resources, notably by engaging carpenters, artisans, ceramicists, and local businesses. As a purpose-driven company, Fontenille Collection affirms through this approach a committed vision of hospitality, attentive to heritage preservation, the environment, and the sustainable integration of each establishment within its human and natural landscape.
